Do you struggle with mental health issues? Positive quotes about mental health, managing your health and finding positive affirmations to read, are GREAT places for you to start.
Within this post, I’m going to include the 3 most important, foundational tips for more positive mental health.
These are 3 of the single most effective habits you can develop and doing them all together is incredibly beneficial for your health and happiness.
Relaxing your body and mind are equally important when you are dealing with a lot of depression triggers, or when your depression causes fatigue and trouble sleeping.
Positive Quotes About Mental Health To Soothe Yourself
Positive Quotes About Mental Health; Start Practicing Meditation
Everyone needs some kind of peace and quiet.
Some people require a little extra focus and centering, so it might make sense for you to learn how to meditate effectively.
The easiest way to do this is to find somewhere quiet, take a seat, plant your feet on the floor and sit with your hands in your lap.
Now, simply notice what it actually feels like to have your butt on the seat. Simply follow the breath, in through the nose, slowly and deeply, then out again through a slow deep exhale through the mouth.
Focusing on your breath stimulates the Vagus nerve which is responsible for….
“The vagus nerve is responsible for the regulation of internal organ functions, such as digestion, heart rate, and respiratory rate, as well as vasomotor activity, and certain reflex actions, such as coughing, sneezing, swallowing, and vomiting ”Vagus Nerve as Modulator of the Brain–Gut Axis in Psychiatric and Inflammatory Disorders
People often remark that they find their mind wandering at first or getting frustrated but the key thing is to notice the thought is there, thank yourself for having the thought or visualise placing the thought in a box (or a visual representation of the thought), then place the box on a cloud and watch it float away.
Positive Quotes About Mental Health; Try Mindfulness
Some people like to practice mindfulness while meditating, but you can do one or the other. If you aren’t yet ready to meditate and clear your mind, you can still benefit from adding more mindfulness to your life.
Mindfulness is nothing more than living in the present, understanding what is happening right now, appreciating the current moment, and not worrying too much about the past or the future.
It can be very therapeutic, especially for people with stress, anxiety, and depression.
After my second nervous breakdown, I discovered mindfulness on my way to recovery and it was truly life changing for me.
Positive Quotes About Mental Health; Get More Sleep
Another one of the forgotten methods of dealing with depression is maintaining a good sleep schedule. Your body needs sleep in order to function properly, and to give itself time to do repairs.
Start focusing on getting better sleep, through meditation, taking your medications, getting more exercise, and improving your general mental health.
Finally, I want to share how important it is to read Positive Quotes about Mental Health and Affirmations Regularly
As you may or may not know, I’m currently training for my Art Therapy License and I’m so enthralled by the fact that I’m learning that there are scientific reasons why my favourite wellness activities work.
Something I discovered recently, was that cognitively speaking, adults generally have the ability to hold 7 pieces of information in their heads at a time (the magic number according to Psychologist George A Miller, a Harvard Psychology professor who wrote a study positing this hypothesis back in 1956 – read here).
7 pieces of information (plus or minus 2).
That means, if you replaced ALL of the negative self talk that you use, with positive quotes and affirmations, how worthy do you think you would feel?
I read quotes and affirmations regularly because I am all to aware of the incredible benefits there are for my mental health.
